The story of this apartment in the Jandarmriei area of Bucharest is a recent one; the interior design by Andreea Stefan's architecture firm was finalized this year.
The 60 square meters of the dwelling comprise a long, narrow hallway, a generous living room with a dining area and a dedicated office corner, a bedroom, a kitchen, and a bathroom. Although mathematically it doesn't seem to be a large surface, the attention paid to each area of interest and the efficient communication between them make the space ergonomic and visually pleasing.
“The kitchen is visually separated from the living room both by a different flooring and by some wooden veneer slats and a fixed transparent glass panel with a metal structure. Since the apartment has underfloor heating, the separator slats were glued to the bottom and mechanically fastened only to the wall and ceiling.”
Taken over from the developer with the finishes completed, the interventions at the level of the walls were not major. The architects proposed creating functional and aesthetic accents both through wooden ribbing and MDF cladding or, in the case of the hallway, wardrobe doors with alternating ribbing, vertical and diagonal, which give the space a unique dynamism.
A great advantage of this apartment is that it benefits from plenty of natural light, with the living room also having access to the terrace. In the evening, artificial lighting compensates by creating general light from spotlights and highlighting certain areas through local and ambient lighting.
The modern stylistic line with industrial influences from the entire dwelling was continued in the bedroom design.
“We also have accents of black and gold here, decorative wooden panels above the bed and suspended gray bedside tables of different sizes. The main piece is the upholstered bed, from which the beneficiaries enjoy the view offered by the generous windows.”
