In the heart of a quiet area, near Băneasa Forest, lies a 3-bedroom apartment of 78 sqm, surrounded by an intimate courtyard of 30 sqm.
Purchased at the end of 2022 by a Romanian-American couple settled in the United States, this space was intended to become the perfect place for vacations spent with their large family.
The owners, both around 50 years old, chose to buy the apartment to have a slice of paradise in Romania, where they could retreat from the hustle and bustle of life across the ocean. With three children and a life story spanning two cultures, the couple wanted to create a space that reflected both their Romanian roots and their American lives.
Purchased unfinished, the apartment required a complete renovation to reach its full potential. Among its strengths is a generous and bright open space, which allowed for the creation of a spacious kitchen and two seating areas in the courtyard. However, the apartment also had some drawbacks: small bedrooms, an impractical service bathroom, and low-quality finishes.
All of these required a creative and meticulous approach to the renovation.
Collaboration with the owners was essential for the success of the project. They expressed their desire for a relaxing apartment with pastel colors that would accommodate the whole family.
Starting from these indications, the design team at Next Interior, led by Alexandra Pătrașcu and Adrian Popa, created a space that combines the aesthetics of the Memphis group with a soothing chromatic palette. The kitchen became the central point of the layout, a meeting place for the extended family, while furniture and finishes were chosen to add character and comfort.
One of the biggest challenges was installing the terrazzo tiles in the kitchen, which required replacing the gypsum-board walls with fiber cement boards. Discovering structural problems during the renovation, as well as adhering to a tight deadline, tested the team's skills and resources.
However, the project was completed in approximately 7 months, with a budget of around 70,000 euros.
