We are human. Therefore, we cannot possibly know everything, but as long as we live, we learn. And until we manage to learn it all, it is good to have some basic rules and guidelines to follow.
This also applies to interior design. We decided to support you by pointing out a few mistakes that you are very likely to make when deciding to give your home a new look.
Forget the hallway. You only get one chance to make a good first impression. Therefore, the hallway is of overwhelming importance. Don't neglect it. Decorate it simply but nicely and accessorize it with an object with a story to personalize it.
Incorrect lighting. We recommend installing a light dimmer in your home so you can adjust the intensity according to the time of day.
Built-in refrigerators. Actually, anything "built-in" seems very impersonal. And you don't want your kitchen to look like one from a restaurant. Besides, too many walls steal from the size of the room.
Everything is coordinated. Do you really want your apartment or house to look like a computer rendering by an architect? Your home is a sanctuary. It's lived in every day and has your personality. Are you coordinated 24/7?
All-white kitchens. They're wonderful, hard to use and lacking charm. Bring color into the most used room in the house. Paint your cupboard door wood a bold orange or clad them with red matte glass. Be brave!
Wall-mounted furniture. We tend to stick everything to the wall because it's symmetrical and appears tidy and organized. There's no harm in moving furniture pieces around a bit. Try it.
The dominance of beige. This is the safest color. You can't go wrong with the color of wood, with light brown tones. But you also can't make a strong impression. Beige is not a cheerful color, it is a quiet color. Change it now.
The collection of useless things. Did you buy a new armchair? Get rid of the old one. Did you get a pouf? Ditch two chairs. Don't cram furniture into your home.
Rooms with a single purpose. Do you have a dining room? Are you using it for anything else? Why not? Why can't a dining room transform into an office for the rest of the day? Multifunctionality is trending.
Furniture sets. Remember those Diana, Maria, Cristina sets in furniture stores? Solid wood with lots of floral decorations as corners? Yes? Forget them. Buy each piece of furniture individually. Be bold.
