When you say you want to furnish a house or room in a modern style, you're not saying much, actually. The modern style in interior design covers a very wide range of ways to arrange a room while keeping in mind some fairly generous rules with plenty of exceptions.
Let's open GaleriaSa and take the bedroom as an example. If you want to achieve a modern bedroom, first of all, you will have to get rid of all furniture pieces with details, carved frames, throw away unnecessary accessories and give up on busy prints. The modern style, which has become popular in the last 5 decades is the IKEA style, if we were to give it a name.
It is represented by clear lines, matte or glossy surfaces but solid colors, not printed ones, and without too much color play. In essence, the key word of the modern style is functional, somewhere between minimalism and contemporary style.
Thus, in a modern bedroom we will find a simple wardrobe, preferably built-in or somehow masked in the decor, a king size bed (double), two nightstands, wall sconces or a ceiling lamp. In the case of accessories, lamps can replace sconces, but they must also be simple, discreet, and very practical.
The headboard becomes optional, but if you want to keep it, choose a simple model, in two colors, or a monochrome panel. If you find the decor too austere, you may want to try a mural painting or a geometric wallpaper, but be careful not to bring too many contrasts into the equation.
A black and white scheme with one pop of color can be all you need for a modern bedroom. If you have underfloor heating or a constantly high temperature in your home, you can safely do without a rug, but being a bedroom, you cannot compromise on matte curtains or blinds to avoid affecting your sleep and rest.
