The arrival of a child changes your plans regarding interior design. For these two young people, the news that they were going to become parents came with joy, but also with anxiety. Their 36-square-meter apartment needed a quick makeover. The solution of moving into a larger space was excluded, for the moment, for financial reasons.

They turned to their friend, a professional designer, for help and discussed their current needs and what they wanted to achieve after the renovation. Anna proposed eliminating the wall separating the living room from the kitchen to create a more fluid and suitable space for the changes in their lives. Fortunately, this was possible as the wall was not structural.

Thus, the apartment's space was reconfigured, and functions were rearranged except for the bathroom.

To keep the budget as acceptable as possible, they hunted for discounted products, and when it came to furniture pieces, they decided to purchase them from IKEA or Jysk. Anna, the designer they worked with, proposed compromise solutions without sacrificing the necessary comfort for the beneficiaries.

The space in the hallway was previously very narrow, but by removing the wall, a slight widening was achieved, allowing the integration of two storage areas: one next to the bathroom, which includes the washing machine, and one on the other side, towards the bedroom, a wardrobe with sliding doors (see sketch in the photo gallery above).

In the main room, the other functions were outlined: a kitchen with a small dining area, a living room, and a sleeping area for the parents as well as a crib for the baby. All are minimally presented to avoid overwhelming the space.

A sofa and coffee table, a few corner shelves for decorations, a TV area with a fireplace - this is a brief description of a living room in a 36-square-meter apartment.

Next comes the kitchen, compactly designed to get the most out of the available perimeter. Appliances are built-in, and the necessary cabinets for storage are arranged on two sides; it's a modern, simple arrangement through the combination of wood and white, with a splashback made of Metro ceramic tiles.
