I am convinced that you have wondered at least once if there is a standard solution that can be applied when you have to furnish a small kitchen. I have news for you: there isn't. Every kitchen is special because of the people who use it, so no arrangement is like another.

What you can do, however, is focus on a solution that takes into account both functionality, storage and aesthetics or, better yet, personalization of the space.

Whether we are talking about a kitchen of 4, 6 or 8 square meters, separated from the rest of the rooms or open to the living room, any furnishing idea will be useful to you. But today, I want to focus on those atypical details, the original approaches and stylish arrangements that can transform a mundane kitchen into a special one.

The first idea I propose is a bench! Yes, you read that right. A bench placed in continuation of the furniture or table to be used instead of chairs. You can cover it with decorative colored cushions and thus bring a touch of dynamism to this space. You can try this idea if your kitchen is long and narrow.

Take advantage of every square meter available! Many of us have been used to kitchens having a parallel structure, on one side the table and on the other the cupboards, stove and refrigerator. But what do we do if the configuration is square? We use the space by the window.

How about installing the sink at the window and placing a few shelves nearby where you can put aromatic plants and some decorations? Or even move the table to the window. The bench I mentioned above can help you save precious space.

Even if your kitchen is open to the living room, a small separation of functions will bring you more benefits than disadvantages. A good example is adding an island-type unit which will visually separate the kitchen area from that of the living room. You can then give up the table and use the new unit to have lunch/dinner and gain extra storage space inside it.

If you like to cook and experiment with different recipes, it might be a good idea for your kitchen to be isolated from the rest of the house. The smells resulting from cooking will not spread throughout the entire house. But what do we do when we have a small space and little natural light? You can opt for sliding doors made of tempered glass.

Pay attention to colors! You can easily personalize a space by using an accent shade, such as yellow or orange. They are warm, pleasant colors suitable for the kitchen. The color accent could be the table top, colored chairs or the front between the furniture units.

Considering storage, it is good to have a vertical vision. Go with tall cabinets, all the way up to the ceiling or use the free space above them. Even the space above the refrigerator is worth considering.
