In general, small spaces are difficult to decorate. In this case, creating multiple storage spaces and maximizing every square foot are the most important things we can do for a functional layout. Although we often like to receive advice on how to decorate our homes, sometimes it's good to know what not to do.

Here are seven mistakes to avoid when decorating a small apartment:

Mismatching furniture size with the room size. In this layout, for example, introducing a coffee table in the middle of the room would have been unnecessary. Instead, a slightly larger side table was placed against a wall, so the room doesn't feel cramped at all.

Interrupting visual coherence. If your home has several small rooms, the walls should be decorated in the same color. This will help you connect the rooms visually, and this coherence makes the space appear much more organized.

Not fully utilizing the space. In the case of kitchens, every square centimeter should be used. Above the stove, for example, where we can't add essential cooking utensils. Similarly, in the space between cabinets, some of the pans we use frequently can fit well.

Overcrowding. No matter how many storage solutions you have, it's important to keep only the things you absolutely need and use regularly. Otherwise, you will end up with an overcrowded home, and the feeling of discomfort will intensify over time. If you feel that the space you live in is overwhelming you, it may be time to consider moving to a new apartment.

Outdated decor. A small home doesn't mean a limitation in terms of decor options. So, you can add a unique touch to the space by incorporating patterns with bright accents or bold colors.

In the image, the colorful drapes attached to the ceiling draw attention and make the viewer forget that the room is so small, the point of interest being the attractive pattern of the fabric.
