Small homes often struggle to accommodate all the compartments that a generous space embraces effortlessly. The 25 sqm house we present below breaks away from the customs of classic functionality and embraces the benefits of imagination and personal comfort. An atypical example to follow!
Opening the Gallery Architects Vjacheslav Zhugin and Olga Ursulenko designed this layout starting from the already known premise that "less means more," transforming it here into "almost nothing means everything.
Practically, we can identify the kitchen area, the dining area, and the living room in the small apartment, but these are not delimited in any way, as in a classic dwelling, but rather merge and intertwine, making the whole homogeneous and the concept coherent.
The unification of the space was achieved through the use of white as the base tone (walls, furniture, flooring, window frames) and through warm textures (wood, textiles). The stylistic repetition is also a artifice that gives substance to the idea of a whole - observe the creative accents such as the blue frames on the brick wall, the sticker in the shape of a cow, or the bird on the windowsill.
The vibrant paintings contribute to the color scheme, and the messages they contain support the idea of the atypical.
Visual balance is achieved through the correct scaling of the room - the only kitchen furniture unit is separated by a narrow wooden section, the table and chairs are also small in size, the only imposing object in the space remaining the sofa, which is the focal point of the room.
The bathroom is an example of space optimization without aesthetic sacrifices. The fresh dose of aqvamarin becomes the background against which sanitary objects and shelves for everyday items will stand out, creating the impression of cleanliness and imagination. We find colorful posters with messages that energize the atmosphere and create a sense of well-being.
Thus, although it only had 25 sqm at its disposal, the team of the two architects knew how to make the most of it, diluting distances and reducing dead spaces to a minimum. The result is a charming, atypical house that is fully functional. The entire layout is a showcase of imagination in which utility submits to the given situation, giving priority to a modern style and an extremely pleasant atmosphere.
