This story goes around the world thanks to Ferdinand Cheval, a French postman who had a dream that he was able to make a reality only through his ambition. The charm of this story is even greater if we think that in today's society such constructions could no longer be realized, which are a true work of art.
The French postman, Ferdinand Cheval, was born in 1836 in Charmes-sur-l’Herbasse, Drôme, France and died on August 19, 1924. He spent 33 years of his life working on his building which he entitled Le Palais idéal (The Ideal Palace), a stunning example of naive architectural art.
Ferdinand Cheval began construction of the Ideal Palace in April 1879, and this explains where he got the idea to build something so amazing, which still inspires admiration today, 90 years after his death.
“I was walking very fast when my foot got caught on something that made me fall a few meters away. I wanted to know the cause. I had a dream in which I built a palace, a castle or a cave, I can't express it exactly. I didn't tell anyone about this because I didn't want to be ridiculed. (…) I found a stone.
They told me that nature wants me to create a sculpture,” wrote Ferdinand Cheval in April 1879.
