Some older apartment configurations give us headaches when planning a renovation. Simply put, old homes no longer meet contemporary life, so substantial changes are required to achieve the desired result. I want to talk to you about such an apartment today.

Opening Gallery The Need for Renovation The 65 square meter apartment is located in Spain and was designed by Nice Home Barcelona. The space needed more natural light, a better distribution of functions, in other words, a total renovation. Initially, the apartment consisted of 3 bedrooms, a closed kitchen, living room and one bathroom.

Now, there are only 2 bedrooms, a spacious living room with an open dining area to the kitchen, a larger bathroom and a service bathroom. Therefore, the design studio's mission was complex as it involved removing walls that made up the previous rooms. However, the result was worth all the team's effort because the interior looks impeccable!

The ceiling beams were restored and kept because they have a special charm in shaping the decor. The window sills were also repaired, and the original flooring was replaced with an oak parquet, except for the bathrooms where we will find decorative cement tiles.

The walls were painted white to enhance the brightness of the rooms and highlight the wood of the flooring as well as that of the beams. The bedrooms are an exception, where a very light, pleasant blue shade is used, suitable for a bedroom.

Mix of Styles and Useful Tricks

The interior design inspires comfort and relaxation, as you would expect from any home. Textures blend harmoniously, and discreet color accents add dynamism. You will notice that many decorative mirrors have been used to reflect light and amplify the dimensions. Hence their non-random placement: on the wall opposite the window or in the corner of the room (in the living room).

A window-type mirror can also be found in the dining area, as well as in the bedrooms.

The kitchen, previously closed and without a window, now receives light from the dining area. It is a coherent approach because the place where you eat should be close to the kitchen, like the one found here by the designers. You will notice that the cooking space is small, but the opening towards the dining area (which, by the way, is nicely decorated) visually increases its surface.

Since the third bedroom was eliminated, the main bathroom is now more spacious; in fact, a service bathroom was even set up in a former pantry, where the washing machine was also installed. A consistent and clean style can be found in both bathrooms with decorative cement tiles and Metro-type faience.

The bedrooms feature this Mediterranean influence with shades of blue and natural materials. The same trick with mirror placement appears in the bedrooms as well.

Take a look at the apartment plan to better understand the arrangement of the rooms and the newly created functions. I hope you find inspiration in this interior design!
