This family decided they needed a makeover when they found out they were expecting their third child. They knew they wanted functional spaces for cooking and spending time together as a family, as well as a work area. They had ideas but weren't sure how to put them into practice.
They turned to a team of designers with whom they discussed what they envisioned for the project. See the details below.
The 3-bedroom apartment, covering 80 square meters, needed to provide comfort for all family members. The most important change proposed by the designers was removing the wall separating the living room from the hallway. This made the living room more spacious, increasing it from 16 square meters to 23 square meters.
Then, they moved the door to the master bedroom so that access would be from the living room. In its place, they created a storage area, which was necessary in this space; this move also corrected the unnatural placement of the bedroom door right next to the entrance door.
Regarding the decor, the clients didn't want anything complicated. They found themselves drawn to the characteristics of the Scandinavian style, with functional and efficient spaces decorated with a palette of light, neutral colors, adding chromatic accents.
The kitchen is important for this family. In the 10 square meters, they integrated storage spaces, necessary appliances, and a dining area. The furniture was arranged on two sides, thus ensuring an optimal layout of the work zones. Neutral tones predominate, from the white of the cabinets, the ceramic tiles, or the wood texture of the countertop.
Touches of color come to cheer up the space and bring a touch of the family's personality; we thus have colorful chairs, lighting fixtures with different designs, or decorative ceramic tiles on the floor level.
For the living room, they opted for a retro vibe (see furniture pieces with legs). The decor keeps everything as airy as possible, with pieces that don't unnecessarily clutter the room. The accent wall in red, as well as the symmetrical arrangement of the two paintings and pendant lights, create an excellent focal point. The rest of the ensemble is kept in subdued, neutral tones.
A workspace for both spouses was also integrated here. The retro inspiration is even more visible in this area.
The bedroom will also feature a red accent, reminiscent of the connection with the living room through the relocation of the access from the hallway. The color scheme is subdued despite the use of red on the wardrobe doors. The bed occupies the central zone, complemented by two bedside tables. The dresser also reprises the retro motif of the living room furniture in a coherence of details.
After the living room, the children's room is the most spacious in this apartment. It has almost 20 square meters and includes two beds for the older children and a crib for the baby. The designers focused on creating as functional an area as possible, adding a desk by the window and a table with three chairs for the children to play.
