Bathroom design always gives us a headache. Whether it's the limited space that hinders our decision-making or our inability to choose the right finishes, there are always challenges. That's why designers exist – specialists who can guide us towards choices that suit both our style and desires.
For today's project, we are joined by Daniela Nichita, a student at the "Ion Mincu" Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning. With her help, we will describe a bathroom design project for a young couple from Bucharest.
Like most people living in Bucharest's apartment blocks, the main problem is the lack of generous space. This was also the case here. The apartment has a modest-sized bathroom, which made Daniela's mission somewhat more difficult. However, the result is one that is both elegant and simple.
The owners had no limitations; they wanted to have two sinks and replace the bathtub with a ceiling-mounted shower with a bench for sitting.
The bathroom has a usable area of 6.48 square meters (1.80 x 3.60). Everything that was there before was removed and replaced, from tiles and faience to plastering, toilet, and faucets.
The elements used were not expensive, only some aspects being more costly, such as the marble used to build the shower bench. The effect created is remarkable because the pale green background of the mosaic beautifully complements the color scheme in the shower area.
Two special sinks with an external basin and very strong, straight lines were also used, along with a large, well-lit mirror.
The furniture is made of dark hardwood to create a strong contrast between the shower mosaic, tiles, and white walls. The bathroom's unique character can also be found in the lighting fixtures; two spotlights were chosen for the shower cabin, while two hanging lamps, mimicking a chandelier, beautifully outline the overall style.
