Autumn is the most favorable season for planting fruit trees. Among the advantages is gaining several months before the first harvest compared to trees planted in spring. The main conditions are that the planting material be of good quality and that technical planting procedures be respected. If you have decided which trees to plant, here are eight tips for efficient planting:
Purchase seedlings only from nurseries or authorized sales points. During this period, you may find seedlings for sale in markets, fairs, or even along roadsides. These seedlings may or may not take root, they may bear little or no fruit, or you may even end up buying a species other than the one you desired.
Check the chick's label. It should not be missing from each chick and must contain information about the species and breed.
Check the chick's roots to ensure they are healthy.
Do not purchase seedlings with roots cut very short. Short roots do not ensure proper nourishment for the plant, which risks drying out.
The bark on the roots must be clean, without signs of disease or bruising, and have a whitish color in the cut areas. You can easily recognize diseased roots because they have a dark brown color.
