Fish lovers know very well that they don't require much maintenance when it comes to cleanliness or care, like other pets do. Even so, we need to make sure we provide them with a suitable living environment, and for that, it is necessary to follow certain guidelines and rules regarding aquarium care.
Besides the multitude of design variations and sophisticated decorations for aquariums, there are just as many utensils and appliances to help us take care of them and keep them clean.
A true fish lover should have all the necessary tools and elements such as: a special aquarium vacuum cleaner, a scraper, a special solution for cleaning the aquarium walls, a substrate vacuum cleaner, buckets, a heater with a thermostat, a filter, a pump, a lighting system, and a smaller transition aquarium (for when we change the water in the permanent aquarium).
When and how do we change the water in the aquarium and how do we clean it?
Maybe not everyone knows this, but the water in the fish tank should never be completely changed, as this alters the climate they are used to and risks stressing them too much.
Generally, about a quarter of the total water (between 10% and 20% of the amount) is drained once a week.
Remove the decorative objects, move the fish to the transition aquarium (which you have previously filled with water from the permanent aquarium), then use a hose to drain some of the water into the prepared buckets.
Using a special vacuum cleaner, extract all the dirt deposited on the bottom of the aquarium, then wash the interior walls with a clean cloth, which you will soak in a special solution. Decorations are washed with cold water, without any chemicals.
For areas where more dirt has accumulated, you can use a little ammonia, which you will leave to act for about two hours, then rinse with cold water. Also, a special scraper can help you remove the deposited dirt.
