Designing a child's room is a challenge for an interior architect – it opens up a whole world of possibilities, even for small spaces. In a child's room, creativity has no limits, especially when the future occupant has well-defined passions.
Parents are becoming increasingly aware of the impact the surrounding environment has on children – a child's room design must be functional, comfortable, stimulating play and a desire to learn, balancing storage space with rest space and, above all, highlighting the personality of the little ones.
Architect Adina Buzea was tasked with decorating a room based on a 7-year-old boy's passion for the film Star Wars. He wanted this theme to be reflected in the design of his room.
Adina Buzea likes to talk directly with the project beneficiary, in this case – the oldest son of a young family. He told her his own vision of the space he would inhabit and described the activities and things that represent him.
In this way, the child had double satisfaction upon completion of the project – a room that suits him and the opportunity to see his dreams come true in the surrounding reality. The architect defined details about functionality, color scheme, suppliers together with the parents, all within the initially set budget.
The project raised challenges due to the fact that the room is an attic space, and the three windows are positioned at different heights from each other, making uniform treatment impossible. Classic curtains were chosen for the windows located near the desk, resulting in a unified background for the work area.
A roller blind was chosen for the window next to the bed, thus differentiating the sleeping area and also softening the visual "accidents" caused by the different sizes of the windows.
The furniture was custom-made according to the architect's drawings. The room can easily refresh its look and be adapted to the child's preferences by replacing the photo wallpaper positioned in the desk area. The neutral colors used in the room design represent the basis for the preferred theme.
