Small kitchens come with all sorts of inconveniences. Insufficient space for appliances, too few storage areas for our needs, and the difficult integration of a dining area represent just a few of the most common problems in our homes.
If in other articles (see here) we addressed the subject of furniture arrangement for a as functional kitchen as possible, today we aim to present you with some useful ideas on how you can integrate a table and chairs into a small kitchen.
Before making any changes, you need to know exactly what space you have available. Some kitchen configurations can be difficult in the sense that you barely have room left to integrate a table and chairs. A long and narrow kitchen can pose such problems. Fortunately, solutions exist.
The shape of the kitchen can dictate the shape of the table you will choose. Square or semicircular models are a more suitable option than round tables which tend to take up more space. In addition, the table should allow for chairs to be stored underneath it.
Foldable tables, which can be folded away when not in use, represent one of the handy options for small or very small kitchens. Depending on the space, foldable chairs can also be purchased. Its shape can be rectangular or semicircular. Extendable tables can also be considered, starting from two seats and potentially reaching four or six.
It's not just the shape that matters, but also the size of the table. Since we are talking about small kitchens, the model should also be adapted to the space; square or rectangular, it is important to follow the line of the arrangement and not obstruct circulation in the kitchen.
That's why we say that in small spaces, adaptation is the key word. If classic options are excluded, then it's time to look for alternative solutions such as a bar-type table arranged in continuation with the cabinets or a simple countertop mounted by the window.
A suspended countertop mounted on the wall opposite the furniture can successfully replace the classic idea of a table, and when it comes to chairs, stools can be stacked, freeing up space in the room. In the case of open-space kitchens, a kitchen island unit can act as a dining area.
