Childhood is the age of play, exploration, and fun. It's the age when children discover the world and form their own personalities. That's why a child's room represents their universe, its arrangement contributing greatly to harmonious development.

In urban environments, spaces dedicated to children are few and often limited in size, with the home, indoors, being the main playground. Therefore, there is a need for adaptation translated into intelligent choices and an arrangement that includes both play areas and storage for toys.

To support you, we turned to the help of specialists, interior designers Andrei Penciu and Irina Lega from Square2Design. Here's what they advise us.

A child's room is a multifunctional space encompassing the study area, the sleeping zone, and the play area, sometimes even a place for hobbies, such as musical instruments. Thus, functions overlap and often the space does not allow us to separate them completely.

Toys take up a lot of space so a practical solution would be to extend upwards as much as possible, storing vertically. With the help of mobile stairs, these spaces will be accessible even to young children.

For example, if we use a suspended bed, the space underneath it will become the play area and possibly toy storage. When the child reaches school age, this can be arranged into their future desk. It is important that the furniture or other parts are well fixed to the wall and have as few exposed cables and as few corners as possible to avoid unwanted incidents.

We know that when they play, children like to enter a world of fantasy. So we can be guided by their tastes in choosing a theme for decorating the room, even involving them in the whole process.

For example, for boys who are very fond of superheroes, such as Batman or Superman, the space mentioned earlier, under the bed, can be arranged to resemble Batman's "cave". Often stickers or wallpaper are enough to convey the desired theme, especially in small rooms that limit our options.

From here it is easier to choose the color palette and furniture pieces, mentions Andrei Penciu.

Most apartments have reinforced concrete slabs, so we can anchor a ceiling swing quite easily. It's an idea that will bring joy to young children and an original touch to the decor. It can be placed in the hallway or living room, depending on the size of the space.

As we know, young children like to express themselves through drawing. To avoid repainting the walls every year, we can use a special paint with a chalkboard effect on one wall in their room; it can be near the study area or limited in size only on the door at the entrance to the room or the wardrobe doors.
