As promised last week, I will continue the topic of terraces in Bucharest where it's worth spending our summer days. This week I will give you some details about D ES CH IS Gastrobar, one of the newest and most creative locations in the capital.
DES CHIS, though located on the roof of a former factory, features a garden, a restaurant, a covered area with sofas and tables, a specially designed wall for film projections, and another sandy area where those who couldn't get to the seaside can console themselves by sticking their feet in the sand and watching the sparrows circling overhead and teasing the Dambovita River.
The keywords for this space are: open, garden, sand, wood, sunset, workspace, film, experimental, panoramic, puzzle, multifunctional.
As mentioned, D ES CH IS Gastrobar is located on the roof of the Bumabacului Industry, near the banks of the Dambovita River, in the vicinity of Production Workshop and A makerspace for everyone.DESCHIS aims to bring together, in a relaxed setting, the community of active-creative people and provide its 500 square meter space for beautiful ideas.
Among other things, this is the first restaurant and cultural space located on the rooftop of a building in Bucharest. It offers 500 square meters of experimental outdoor space where film, theater, exhibitions, good cheer, and good food come together.
The terrace design took six months and its execution another three months, and it will receive a series of additions throughout the summer. The design was done in collaboration with Wolfhouse Productions architecture and urban planning office.
This is a young office focused on developing interesting projects in architecture, urban planning and other related fields, with projects based on sustainable means.
Wolfhouse Productions has participated in numerous competitions, which they have largely won. They also have a series of completed projects, including the landscaping of a beach in Romania, temporary installations in historic buildings, and museum furniture pieces.
Gastrobar is conceived primarily from the perspective of the city which needs life around the Dambovita River. Therefore, it takes advantage of the panoramic character of the terrace by arranging panoramic alveoli towards Dambovita. Moreover, located on the green corridor of water, the gastrobar is designed with abundant vegetation like a rooftop garden.
Secondly, the terrace enjoys atypical neighbors, and the industrial landscape of the Bumbac Factory provides an unconventional atmosphere for the rooftop bar. Similarly, its proximity to Nod Makerspace (a workspace for designers and inventors) adds an air of experimental innovation and a community of creatives to the equation.
