Next to the kitchen, the living room is the room where we invest a considerable budget because we want a decor that represents us like a business card. In the process of furnishing, however, we are often subject to mistakes, and living room decor is no exception; we can only avoid them if we are attentive to a few details that we will discuss below.

First of all, you have to think about the 2 main functions that the living room fulfills: the aesthetic one and the functional one. Therefore, it is necessary to harmonize the design and the elements that will compose the function of the room.

Although ignored, the electrical installation of the room and the house in general affects our comfort.

Whether it's insufficient or inefficient lighting (due to the fact that there are too few light sources in the room), or too few outlets that force us to stretch extension cords throughout the room so we can use the television, laptop, charge our phone or tablet, use the desk lamp or floor lamp for reading and turn on the air conditioner in summer.

For all of these, we recommend that you place accessible outlets that eliminate unsightly cables stretched across the floor. Analyze the functions in the living room very well and it is best to do this from the renovation stage because now is the right time for any changes.

When it comes to furniture pieces, you also have to take into account the existing space and your needs. Do you need an extendable sofa for family members who come to visit and stay overnight? Are your children passionate about console games? Then you can consider a table with drawers so you can hide the cables there.

Do you like to browse interior design or fashion magazines? Again, they also need a place where you can easily access them and especially store them without constantly tripping over them.

If the living room space is not particularly bright, we recommend medium-height furniture so that natural light is no longer blocked by a tall bookcase or any type of soldier cabinet (see some models in the photo gallery). In addition, the current trend is to use libraries made of modules because, depending on their arrangement, they can permanently change the image of the whole.

The structure of these modules is light but solid, and the combination or juxtaposition of various contrasting materials (wood, frosted glass, aluminum) highlights a discreet elegance. There is also the option of embedding furniture in the wall to save even more space.

And since we've been talking about the sofa, we know that its role in a living room is defining, practically it conveys the function of this space. Although we advised you in similar articles to avoid placing the sofa right next to the wall, in some cases, depending on the size and configuration of the room, this may be the only solution so that circulation can be as fluent as possible.
