Do you know all those cardboard tubes left over from kitchen paper towels? Don't throw them away, but keep them to use in DIY projects. You will be able to create simple and original pencil and pen holders for your children's desks.

You will need cardboard tubes of different sizes (for variety), a knife or cutter, scissors, glue, string or thinner thread in various colors, buttons, and fabric material.

First, cut the tube or tubes into smaller pieces if necessary. Use a sharp knife. Cut the remaining parts with scissors to level the base well. Seal one end of the tube with scotch tape or any other type of strong enough tape to support the pencils later.

Add glue to the base of the tube and start rolling around with thicker thread, preferably colored. As you progress with the thread, gradually add more glue.

When you reach the top, cut off the remaining thread. To further decorate and personalize the newly created object, you can add buttons or fabric cut into leaf shapes.

For more color and a special effect, you can use two or three types of colors for the string or thread with which you decorate the tubes.

Have fun crafting!
