We are visiting today one of the most original apartments in Bucharest's Old Town, belonging to a young artist who has left his mark on every detail of the interior design.
The apartment, completely renovated in 2017, has 2 rooms (45 sqm) and is currently intended for rent. The cost of the renovation (approximately €25,000) and the care taken in choosing the decorative elements make us understand that the owner did not compromise on quality at any point.
The apartment was decorated in an eclectic style, with a contemporary component. It is a combination between the dynamism of the present and retro, vintage, traditional Romanian elements. The design highlights the beauty and wonder of things with history that have the power to bring back the interwar period.
Vintage and shabby chic furniture elements were used, giving the interior individuality, charm, and romance. These are old objects, manually worked and painted, with artistic value and aesthetic potential, originating from different areas of the country.
The dowry chest, the door on the wall, the shutters are all authentic. The six-century polychrome dowry chest comes from Transylvania, specifically from the village of Cobor (Kuevern in Saxon dialect). The massive wooden door used as a design element in the living room niche is from a boyar mansion in northern Bukovina, near Sucevita, from the commune of Marginea, famous for its archaic black ceramics.
The table is reconditioned from a peasant bench. The shutters with patina are also from Saxon areas.
Contemporary and current components of the design can be found in the kitchen furniture and the bedroom furniture.
For the kitchen furniture, doors between rooms, and radiator covers, the owner wanted to work with a furniture company from Italy. The bedroom furniture was ordered from sophia-romania.ro. The capitonated wall in the bedroom, curtains, and blinds were made with the upholstery of the Royal House of Romania.
