For this 50 square meter apartment in Paris, the team of architects proposed a radical refurbishment: functions were redistributed, walls were removed and from two rooms, this dwelling was transformed into one with three.
Looking at the plans you actually understand the scope of the project. The kitchen relocated to make room for a very small master bedroom, the bathroom moved within the perimeter of the former kitchen (to have access to utilities) and in its place a child's room was set up, and in the hallway the main storage area of the home was created. Does it sound crazy?
The architects' proposal was bold, and the beneficiaries' doubts were equally great. However, the need to create another room was above their fears. They took on this challenge and the project was completed brilliantly. The result is a fluent apartment, unitary in concept, minimalist in approach.
The interior design followed a simple line, with an emphasis on outlining essential functions. Moving the kitchen area within the perimeter of the living room allowed for the creation of a common space where family members can gather and spend time together. It is practically a welcome and desired socialization area for everyone.
Everything is thought out compactly, from the library unit in the living room to the kitchen furniture or the wardrobes in the hallway. A neutral color palette predominates, with plenty of white and black accents against a warmer background thanks to wood finishes. Built-in appliances and minimalist furnishings support the idea of unity and order, so necessary in a small space.
With the help of textures and more colorful accessories, the decor gains personality.
The apartment receives plenty of natural light, and white amplifies the space; it is a happy situation for the 50 square meters and three newly defined rooms.
The two bedrooms are minimally treated and furnished with only the essentials. The child's room has integrated furniture units for varied storage and a small desk, but the parents' smallest bedroom is limited to just a bed and shelves built into a niche.
