The hallway is a rather complicated room. It's not large enough to furnish like a regular room, but ideally it would fit all the shoes, winter and fall/spring clothes, hats, small items like the dog leash, sports equipment, keys, umbrellas... the list could go on, couldn't it?

In practice, you need a piece of furniture in the hallway that is as unobtrusive as possible but still spacious. Ideally, you also need a place to sit so you can put on your shoes and clean and polish them. There are several types of hallway furniture available. If you want to opt for something functional, you'll need something with built-in storage space.

A coat rack mounted on the wall above a chest, upholstered on top to be used as seating, and possibly another shelf above the coat rack for items such as an umbrella, shoehorn, shoe cream, gloves, and hats.

If you have storage solutions for all of the above elsewhere in your home, opt for a minimal design with a delicate mirror and a narrow two-legged table for keys, with a few hooks underneath for an umbrella, gloves, and a scarf or shawl.

If you have a square hallway, then you might choose a piece of furniture suitable for the corner. This way you save space and don't overcrowd one side too much.

Consider vertical storage solutions more than horizontal ones to avoid extending too far and making it difficult to pass through, especially since it's a high-traffic area and the first space people see when entering the home.
