These beautiful and friendly flowers got their name "Craciunita" because during the winter holidays, they were given as gifts to loved ones and family.
Native to Mexico, poinsettias were offered around the holidays for the simple reason that during Christmas, they are the most beautiful, having many reddish flowers that bring joy and change the landscape of the entire house where they are received.
Poinsettias can be purchased from any specialty store or florist, especially during the holiday season. After you have purchased them, it is advisable to move them into a larger pot with well-fertilized soil and efficient drainage.
They must be kept indoors whenever outdoor temperatures drop below 15 degrees Celsius; otherwise, the entire plant risks dying very quickly as it is very sensitive to low temperatures. In the warm season, it is advisable to keep them in a semi-shaded place, as strong sunlight can affect their delicate leaves.
Poinsettias should be watered a maximum of twice a week, and this should be done especially when it is very cold outside and warm inside. You need to make sure that the soil is constantly moist. After Christmas, their flowers will fall off; after this period, give the plant a rest period of at least two months.
During this time, it is advisable to reduce watering and stop fertilizing.
In the spring, it is advisable to prune the shoots, leaving only the green leaves, thus stimulating the branching of the plant and making it bushier. This way, you will enjoy the beauty of poinsettia flowers every Christmas.
