A trend that has seen spectacular growth in recent years and continues to remain at the top is furnishing homes with handmade furniture.

Whether they are do-it-yourself projects or purchased from craftsmen and small neighborhood workshops, handmade furniture pieces add a touch of authenticity to our interiors and hide within them, alongside our own story, the story of the skilled hands that created them.

Recently, at a bar in Bucharest, I found some interesting tables made from wooden doors, doors they had given up when they renovated the space where they set up the establishment.

They told us that the idea came to them after they decided that everything in the bar should be made by themselves and that when they took out the old doors and stacked them on top of each other, they realized they could recycle them for their own use.

For a bar with spacious rooms, this solution is wonderful. Inside a house it is more difficult to apply, due to size reasons, but it is not impossible, and the destination of an old door does not have to be necessarily a table. Here are some ideas for handmade furniture from recycled wooden doors.

First, you can create an unconventional coat rack incorporating mirrors and a mini-shelf for keys or other objects you need to have at hand when leaving or returning from daily activities.

With the help of a wooden door and a few narrow plywood boards, you can create a mini bookcase for the hallway or even the balcony. It requires more working time, but the result is worth the effort.

Use an old door as a table. You will need four legs to mount it on and remove its metal elements, such as the latch and hinges.

Make a headboard out of a wooden door. It's up to you whether you want to upholster it or not. We recommend painting it in the color tones you have in your bedroom or applying a fun textile material if you are going to use it in the child's room.

Use the old door to create a hallway wardrobe that incorporates a coat rack, just like in the image above.
