To make your time as enjoyable as possible while creating beautiful and effective things, we are starting today the series of Do It Yourself (DIY) projects by Povestea Casei. As June 1st is approaching, we will show you how to make minions from glass jars with a small budget (under 50 lei), which your child will surely be delighted with.

Step 1 You will need glass jars (we used some from baby puree, but you can use any small glass container), a yellow spray paint, 2 A4 cardboard sheets – one gray and one black, a white A4 sheet, paper glue, a permanent marker and scissors.

The spray paint has the advantage that a nozzle will allow you to paint the jar evenly, without unsightly marks and surface textures, and it will also dry quickly (maximum 10 minutes). In addition, if you want an entire army of minions, this painting option will allow you to color up to 30 jars.

Step 2 – First, it is necessary to thoroughly degrease the surface of the jars. Clean glass has much better adhesion and avoids any irregularities. We recommend that you carry out the painting stage in an open space – balcony, yard, building staircase.

To avoid staining the surface where you are using the spray, make sure to protect it with a large enough piece of paper or plastic wrap.

Place the jar on a helpful support – we improvised one from a larger jar, which we covered with white paper. Hold the spray pointed towards the jar you want to color at a distance of about 20 cm and spray evenly. You can paint the lids separately, or you can paint everything at once.

Wait a few minutes and repeat the painting procedure – this way, the jar will acquire a matte, strong color.

Step 3 – Using the gray cardboard, draw a straight line on the black cardboard so that you delimit a black band, which will be the frame of the glasses worn by the minions.

Steps 4 and 5 – Cut out the black band with scissors, trying to get as straight a cut as possible.

Step 6 – In this stage, you will draw two small circles on the gray cardboard and carefully cut them out – they will be the lenses of the glasses. Now, on the white A4 sheet, make 2 slightly smaller circles, which, after cutting out, you will glue with the help of glue on one of the gray circles.

Inside the formed eyes, color a small black pupil with the marker – your minions just "got eyes".

Steps 7 and 8 – It's time to glue the previously cut black band around the colored jar. On this band, where you decide the minion's face will be, carefully glue the toy's eyes – you can also choose the cyclops minion model, in which case you will glue only one eye.

Steps 9 and 10 – Draw a few fine lines on the lid of the jar with the marker to sketch the strands of hair. Finally, give the minion an expression by drawing its mouth – it can be mischievous, smiling with all its teeth or make it sing. Congratulations, you have just completed one of the most fun DIY projects, and your minion is ready to play!
