The plum tree, alongside the apple tree, is the most common fruit tree in our country. Besides the fact that plums are very delicious and a very good antioxidant, they can also be used to make jam, plum brandy (tuica) or palinka, which are almost essential items in any household with an orchard.

The scientific name of the plum tree is Prunus Domestica and it has the great advantage that it can grow in any type of soil, but it needs exposure to full sun. If you want a plum tree in your garden, it would be good to plant it as soon as possible because they will bear their first fruit after 3 years from planting.

Having one or more plum trees in your garden is an excellent choice because they require very little care. Plum trees live for about 50 years, so you will enjoy plenty of plums for a long time if you plant many trees, creating a real orchard.

The season in which plum trees should be planted is autumn, before the snow starts or spring, right after it has melted. In the first year after planting, you need to be careful that they do not freeze.

When deciding on planting a plum tree, pay close attention to the type of plum tree you choose, as they can grow up to 9 meters tall, and for a small garden they are not exactly suitable. For smaller spaces, the most suitable plums are those that reach a height of 2-3 meters.

The planting location for your plum tree should be quite open because it needs space around it and should not be crowded by other plants. For this space, it is preferable to bring in a lot of fertilizer and dig a hole about 60 cm deep and 1.2 m in diameter, so that you can put as much organic matter at the base of the tree.
