If your basement needs renovation and you don't want to hire a handyman to do the whole job, you can take it on yourself by following a few simple steps. Whether you want to install tiles or parquet flooring, or just level the basement floor, simply follow the points below to bring your plan to fruition:
1. Clean the surface
Clear the surface of boxes, furniture, or any other objects stored in the basement so you can sweep away the dust.
2. Fill the gaps
If the cement has small holes or cracks, use a special silicone gun for concrete. Follow the instructions on the packaging before application. After applying the silicone, use a trowel to remove excess material and let it dry.
3. Seal the sides of the floor with perimeter tape
This tape is mounted on all sides of the perimeter, where the floor meets the wall.
4. Mix and pour self-leveling screed
Prepare the special adhesive for screeds (self-leveling screed) in a bucket or large container following the manufacturer's instructions written on the packaging. It is recommended that the material be prepared with water and mixed carefully for a few minutes. Start pouring from the corner of the room, in continuous strips, 15-20 cm wide, in as even a layer as possible.
