Light is essential for our homes. It influences how a room looks and, most importantly, how we feel in that room. In the living room, it's even more important because this is where we spend the most time compared to any other part of the house.

To check if we have the right type of lighting and especially how we can improve this aspect, here are a few steps to follow.

Think about the activities you usually do in this room. The type of activity will tell you what kind of light you'll need. From reading, playing with children, and watching TV, each requires a specific type of light and how to combine them. Designers recommend dividing them into three categories: general, task, and accent.

If you are among the lucky ones who enjoy a large amount of natural light, then you will not need additional lighting above. However, most often, especially in apartments in urban areas, an additional light fixture mounted above the ceiling is necessary, such as a pendant lamp or chandelier that helps create a central area of interest.

Spotlights also fall into this category, ensuring uniform light along the entire length of the ceiling.

If you watch TV often, be careful to use lights that can be adjusted to different intensities. This will prevent the bright reflection of light in the television, which is often annoying and tiring for the eyes.

Task lighting includes lamps, such as those we use for reading or at a desk when we don't have enough natural light.

When we talk about accent lighting, we are referring to the type of lighting that creates atmosphere, especially at night. Low floor lamps or small lamps evenly distributed throughout the room, whose warm light reflects off the walls, are ideal for relaxing moments. We can even include candles here.
