A small budget for big changes? Use tricks!

A small space is not always a disadvantage. It's intimate, cozy and undemanding, but it seems a real challenge to furnish it when you have many belongings or your family grows.

Did you know that with a few tricks you can "fool" the eye and give the impression that you have transformed a small and cramped room into a large and airy one? It's all about proportions, light and movement.

White Walls

While dark colors absorb light instead of reflecting it, light ones air out the room and give you a sense of space. Just like the walls, the floor and ceiling should be in light colors.

White has magical powers in a small room, it simplifies the space and highlights the architecture, giving the impression of openness and brightness. If you're worried that too much white will feel cold, add elements made of wood or other natural textures, such as linen, wool.

About Furniture

Don't push furniture against the wall, leave some space, even a few centimeters. When it comes to a bedroom, don't be fooled by the tendency to squeeze the bed into a corner to have more free floor space. This is exactly the impression you will give, of being cramped. Place it in the middle of a wall, with space on either side of the sleeping areas.

Don't place massive furniture in a small room, light materials are suitable. Attention!

Light materials don't mean small pieces. Yes, you're definitely thinking that if you choose more small furniture pieces you will save space. On the contrary, the room will look cluttered and stuffy. You have more to gain with a single spacious cupboard or a large, simple table.

Nothing Too High

Leave the space free in the upper part of the room to give the impression of height and openness. Therefore, choose furniture that is not too tall, at floor level. Also, a wide but short bed is more suitable in a small bedroom than a narrow and tall one. The picture or mirror on the wall should also be placed lower.

Not even the light fixtures should be too high, opt for chandeliers that hang very low or lamps on low bases.
