When it comes to installing a pellet-burning stove with forced draft, chimney installation is an essential aspect for the system to function correctly, be safe, and have a long lifespan. Although these devices are equipped with fans that help exhaust flue gases, a well-sized and properly installed chimney is still necessary.
Choosing the right materials, the optimal chimney route, and adhering to installation requirements are essential factors for system efficiency.
Choosing the correct materials and dimensions
The diameter of the chimney must be chosen according to the length of the flue gas evacuation path, so that it allows for optimal circulation of flue gases.
For a route of up to 3.5 meters, the minimum recommended diameter is 80 mm; however, if the length exceeds 3 meters, a diameter of at least 100 mm is required (for proper installation, it is helpful to know exactly what a pellet stove flue kit contains).
Planning the chimney route
If the chimney route is mounted on the exterior of the building, insulation becomes important to avoid rapid cooling of the smoke, which would lead to condensation formation and loss of system efficiency. The maximum length of the horizontal route should not exceed 3 meters, and the chimney must be mounted with a slight incline of approximately 3-5% to prevent moisture buildup.
The installation and sealing process
The chimney must be securely fastened, and the fixing elements must be positioned at regular intervals, approximately 1.5-2 meters apart, to prevent movement caused by wind or fan vibrations.
