As you are currently landscaping your courtyards and gardens, we recommend planting a decorative tree that can be the focal point of the space around your home during its flowering period: magnolia.

Magnolias are among the most fragrant and spectacular spring plants. There are over 50 different species of magnolia trees that bloom in a variety of colors, from white to very dark shades of purple. So you're sure to find a color that suits your taste.

Planting

The best time to plant a magnolia is now, at the end of April. Before purchasing the magnolia seedling, determine where you want to plant it. This plant needs space and plenty of light to grow properly.

The hole in which the magnolia will be planted should not exceed 70 cm in size. A layer of gravel should be placed at the bottom to prevent root rot.

After inserting the seedling into the hole, begin covering the roots with soil. Ideally, this soil should be taken from the forest, as it contains decomposed leaves and acts as a natural fertilizer. After filling the hole, tamp down the area covering the roots well.

Care

A freshly planted tree should be watered about two to three times per week until it is well established. Mature magnolia trees need to be watered weekly, and during dry periods, every three to four days. As for pruning, this operation is not recommended as it is a very sensitive tree. Pruning can affect its flowering in the following year.
