We propose for today a new design created by Romanian designers.Mihaela and Sorana from Miso Architects will tell us about how they designed a 67 square meter apartment in Bucharest for a young bachelor. The project is called Labyrinth and we invite you to follow the story below.
Deschide GaleriaDragos had just purchased a two-room apartment and wanted a modern, comfortable design with a workspace, as he conducts his professional activity from home.
Through discussions, Mihaela and Sorana learned that he likes Chesterfield-type sofas and would like a dining area, even though the kitchen space is quite limited.
Moreover, the girls received a list of equipment and items that were to come with the apartment "as a package" for Dragos: a pickup truck, two monitors, a printer, an office chair, and floor speakers.
The concept and design proposed were to the young man's liking. The name of the project actually came from the mosaic in the kitchen, and the labyrinthine motif is found throughout the entire design alongside various geometric shapes harmoniously integrated.
As for modifications, the most important one can be found in the hallway, where the architects decided to remove the door connecting to the kitchen, keeping only the entrance from the living room. Thus, on the newly obtained wall they inserted a material new to the Romanian market, a vinyl composite cut into small pieces of different colors.
They chose a three-color geometric pattern that simulates the fragmentation of pieces vertically. On the other wall, they used the same concept but this time with strips of mirrors. The interesting interplay between color and reflection thus brings an extra touch of brightness to this area of the house where natural light does not penetrate.
In the living room, the space was divided into several functional zones designed to intertwine in a harmonious and unified design. Everything was optimized by using an entire wall to incorporate book storage and decorations, the television, the pickup truck, the desk with its accessories, and a radiator covered with a mask made of MDF strips painted matte white.
The Chesterfield sofa and armchair define the relaxation area of the room, the upholstery harmoniously complementing the texture of the curtains and drapes.
The kitchen is configured in an L-shape, with built-in appliances to keep everything as unified as possible. The materials chosen are the same as in the living room, matte gray painted MDF and PAL, visually connecting the two.
The space between the furniture units is treated with a very beautiful mosaic from Italy, with the motif and name "labyrinth," highlighted by an LED strip. The furniture continues with a corner bench upholstered seat with storage space inside and a small round table. It's a pleasant dining area also thanks to the view it offers.
