Few square meters in which the transformation of small rooms into intimate spaces, with a pleasant and relaxing visual impact, was achieved for all five members of a family; this is the story of an interior design without major interventions but with a lot of style.

Open Gallery The challenges faced by the team of architects were not only the small surface area of the two-room apartment and the reduced budget, but also the fact that they had to take into account the needs and desires of three generations in the family to create a functional and pleasant home for each member (the two owners, who work in finance and IT, two children aged 2 and 5, and a grandmother).

Architectural Concept

The climate of the area, with eight months a year without sun, was a decisive element in developing the design concept. The family wanted bright and warm spaces, evoking positive emotions throughout the year. Warm shades of yellow, pistachio and copper were used, along with warm and cool shades of gray, white and black, an inspired contrast, for a modern and graphic interior.

Accents of pistachio color were also proposed for textile materials and decorations, everything being completed by the reddish hue of the flooring. The handmade cement tiles in the bathroom represented the starting point in creating the aesthetics of the entire apartment. They are also found in the kitchen, in an intense yellow shade, which gives the space a fresh, invigorating air.

Functional Compartmentalization

In an apartment with structural partitions and small rooms, options are limited, but creativity and a good analysis of the owners' needs allowed the architects to maximize every square centimeter.

Changing the destinations of the rooms, changing the positions and sizes of door openings, creating side panels for built-in wardrobes from gypsum board, were minimal interventions, but with a significant effect in shaping the dwelling. As a result of the modifications, a comfortable and intimate master bedroom with plenty of storage space resulted, a room for children and grandmother, located at the entrance to the apartment (with two single beds, a sofa, desks for both children and a generous wardrobe), a kitchen with a dining area.
