When you have to furnish a small space, priorities are directed towards achieving increased functionality so that each room can be optimally used. The same thing was on the minds of the architects from Architektownia in Poland when they started renovating this two-bedroom apartment.
The apartment's area of 44 square meters is not exactly friendly. With a kitchen of only 4 square meters and a bathroom of 3 square meters, the arrangement proved to be a challenge.
In the initial plan, the kitchen was a separate room, a detail that fragmented the already small space. To optimize circulation, the architects proposed an opening towards the living room, so now the kitchen is in an open plan with the living room, separated only by a bar-type countertop used for quick snacks.
This reconfiguration brought more coherence to the arrangement, practically increasing the living area. Together with the hallway and kitchen, the living room now measures 29 square meters. The space seems airier and brighter thanks to solutions with spotlights, which ensure uniform lighting.
Because before the renovation there was no proper dining area, one of the beneficiaries' requirements was to integrate such a zone into the current layout so that they could enjoy meals together with loved ones.
The rest of the room maintains a minimalist line, with a corner sofa and furniture pieces that do not rest on the floor. For a small room, this trick helps the space breathe, freeing up the floor. The upper cabinets are used as a bookcase, and the lower ones as a console to support the television.
Shiny surfaces such as glass (see lighting fixtures, coffee table or even mirrors on the wardrobe doors in the hallway) reflect light and create an impression of spaciousness.
The zigzag motif repeats throughout the layout, both in the living room and in the kitchen area and even in the bedroom. It's a simple method to distract attention from the dimensions of the space and at the same time create coherence in the arrangement. In the case of this apartment, the effect is dynamic, and the print does not disturb the decor, as a pleasant beige is used.
