Designer Alexander White was tasked with decorating a 1920s home in a modern style while preserving its architectural features. The result? A clean layout with subtle Scandinavian influences, even vintage touches, plenty of light, and colorful details.
The sloped ceilings and shape of the windows are just a few details that remain in the current décor, offering a unique style to the house. Their integration into the modern design makes this dwelling truly exceptional.
Since the ceilings are quite sloped, the living area is decorated minimally: a corner sofa, a wall-mounted television, and a floor-to-ceiling cupboard. An open space configuration allows the rooms to flow into one another: the living room and dining room are in the same sector, with only a column visually separating the two spaces from the kitchen.
A small nook was added for quick snacks or a fast breakfast.
The predominant white provides ample brightness for the entire house. The light-toned wooden floor harmoniously completes the arrangement, reminding us at the same time of Scandinavian influences. As mentioned earlier, colorful details are the charm of any interior design; here in this all-white decor, the yellow dining chairs and decorative pillows seem to enliven the atmosphere in a pleasant way.
We can't help but notice the fireplace, the centerpiece of the living area. And speaking of colors, we can't overlook the colorful coat rack in the entrance hall.
The kitchen is also a splash of color in the vast white space. The upper cabinets were chosen black to contrast with the rest of the area. The black of the hallway tiles plays the same impactful role. Black is also present in the bathroom, where the tile floor and shower wall tiles blend pleasantly with the white of the other walls and especially the wooden beams.
Bedrooms maintain the same simple and clean note of white, with only a few elements such as wallpaper and rugs providing texture and color to the rooms.
Notice the slanted lines, niches, and beams preserved from the original architecture of the house. Even if not many of us have the opportunity to live in a home with architectural accents, we can certainly draw inspiration from this beautiful arrangement for our own décor.
