As hard as it may seem to believe, this arrangement in 25 square meters is truly impressive. A very small space, the equivalent of a studio apartment, was designed for a single person whose only desire was for the kitchen to be separate from the rest of the room.
It seems almost impossible that someone could live comfortably in such a small dwelling. But the architects at Zukkini in Saint Petersburg show us through this extraordinary achievement that everything is possible with a lot of creativity and determination.
The main challenge was decorating the space so that the beneficiary wouldn't feel the home as cramped and claustrophobic, while also enjoying a comfortable bed, a dining area, a kitchen where they could cook, and sufficient storage spaces.
The kitchen was separated from the rest of the house by a glass door, which offers continuity and fluidity to the room without being perceived as an element that would take away from the already reduced space of the apartment. The door slides so that when not cooking, it remains open, allowing free movement between spaces.
Nordic minimalism is the key concept underlying this design. The predominant white and sublime tones of gray and cream visually open up the room and enhance its spaciousness. Smooth, glossy surfaces (cabinets and dining table) also support this effect. You will notice that pops of color are not missing, which enliven the atmosphere and give it dynamism.
The floral wallpaper in the kitchen is an excellent choice to break the monotony of white as well as the pattern of the flooring (mosaic tiles).
Each function is well highlighted so that it can be used efficiently, despite the fact that the apartment plan is long and narrow plus its reduced size. An excellent idea is the separation of the sleeping area by a white dresser with open shelves on either side. Its thickness allows for the storage of pots or a lamp.
Continuing from it we will find the dining area, a very small space but well thought out so that it communicates directly with the kitchen.
