Time spent outdoors certainly influences our well-being. In urban environments, balconies and terraces represent the main connections between living spaces and the exterior. However, the two are different concepts with different potential. We will discuss some differences between a balcony and a terrace below.
Galeria Balconul is a platform with a balustrade on the exterior wall of a building that connects to the interior through one or more doors. There is also the concept of a logie, a structure similar in function to a balcony but which, structurally, appears incorporated into the building.
The average size of a balcony is generally 1.20 meters or larger, up to 2 meters for long balconies that surround multiple rooms – the living room, bedroom, and even the kitchen.
On the other hand, terraces are open spaces, constructed on a higher level, visibly larger in area and typically found at ground level or on the roof of a building or house.
The significant difference between the two is size. Generally, balconies are significantly smaller than terraces, although this is not necessarily a rule. Given their reduced size, balconies are not as versatile a space as terraces, their role being that of a link between the indoor and outdoor spaces.
Even a small balcony can contribute to the spaciousness of a room, primarily through the amount of natural light that enters and the additional space it provides.
Often, balconies are used as extensions for living space. The wall separating the two areas can be removed, thus creating an additional room or simply an enclosed space as an extension of the living room. The resulting room can be decorated with many plants and furnished to one's liking.
If the balcony is connected to the kitchen, it can be used for storage or even for appliances such as a dishwasher, stove, or oven.
On the other hand, with a much larger area than a balcony, the terrace can be used for various entertainment purposes. It can be landscaped as a garden rich in plants and shrubs, a true green oasis in the middle of the city. You can even install a pool for hot days.
