The design of this elegant apartment did not involve major structural changes but rather an efficient reimagining of each space and the creation of a harmonious atmosphere.
The 127 square meter space, designed by the architecture studio This project explores the multifaceted nature of Romania's cultural identity through the lens of two contrasting perspectives: traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design.
We delve into the rich heritage of Romanian artisans, showcasing their time-honored techniques and exquisite creations, from handwoven carpets in Moldova to intricately carved wooden objects from Maramureș.
Simultaneously, we celebrate the innovative spirit of Romania's emerging designers, who are pushing boundaries and reimagining traditional motifs through a modern lens. Expect to encounter bold fashion designs by Romanian brands like Iași-based Miorita or Bucharest's Noriel, alongside cutting-edge furniture and homeware creations that blend functionality with aesthetic appeal.
Through this juxtaposition of old and new, "Two Sides" aims to illuminate the dynamic evolution of Romanian culture, highlighting its ability to embrace both heritage and innovation. The apartment is distributed in a master bedroom, entrance hall, a children's bedroom, kitchen with dining area, a spacious living room which communicates with the kitchen through an arched doorway, a bathroom with a bathtub, a service bathroom and a dressing room.
The beneficiaries desired a modern home where functionality was paramount, combined with comfort and pleasing visual elements. Thus, we find the rooms furnished airily, simply, and elegantly, without excessive ornamentation. Pragmatic individuals, the clients prioritized the quality of materials and the functionality of the furniture above all else.
Modernism, with its clean, geometric lines, is evident in every area of the home. Taking into account the beneficiaries' wishes, the design team successfully proposed and implemented a play of textures and matte finishes, which bring a sense of relaxation to the entire space.
Chromatic Concept
The chromatic concept is based on earthy, neutral colors charged with warmth. Accents of intense primary colors contrast with the matte white finish of the ceilings and continuous white skirting board with classic profiling. Blue, used in various shades, is the predominant accent color in each area of the dwelling and gives it an overall feeling of relaxation and calm.
The children's bedroom features a combination of light, pastel colors, cream and blue, which seem straight out of a fairytale. Defined by load-bearing walls, the surface area and configuration of this room have remained unchanged. In the master bedroom, a textile wallpaper inspired by flora and fauna was chosen in pleasant shades of cream and intense blue, creating a calm backdrop for the headboard.
