Grafting trees is a process of combining two plant varieties with the aim of improving the quality of the fruit they produce. Grafting can also be considered a method to shorten the time it takes for a tree to reach maturity.

Through grafting, a rootstock (root and a small portion of trunk) is joined with a scion (which is a branch or bud from a different species than the rootstock). This tree cultivation method is useful for obtaining a large number of trees of the same species, but also for adding branches to a tree.

For most trees, grafting is recommended to be done during spring or in the months of May-July. Grafting can usually be practiced on all fruit trees and some shrubs. We can also graft grapevines or even citrus fruits (oranges or lemons).

Chip budding grafting uses a branch fragment with tissue (bud), but this scion may also contain a certain amount of woody tissue.

The chip budding grafting method can be successfully applied in spring, summer, and even at the end of winter.

Iata cum se poate realiza:

After the rootstock is chosen, on the trunk, at a height of 10-15 cm from the ground, the area of possible shoots is cleared.

The first cut is applied to the rootstock transversely on the trunk, at an angle of approximately 22 degrees. This cut will have a depth of at least 3 millimeters.

The blade of the grafting knife is moved above this cut by 3-4 cm. A sloping cut is made so that its end meets the inner end of the first cut.

A fragment identical in size to the one detached from the rootstock must be detached from the scion branch, but it must contain a bud positioned halfway up the height of the scion.

The detached fragment from the rootstock can be used for this purpose by making the necessary measurements and markings. Retouching can also be done, but the important thing is that in the end, the scion must fit perfectly into the section of the rootstock. It is tied with scotch tape, starting from the top and carefully bypassing the bud.
