Born in the rural areas of Italy, the Tuscan style is a heavy, detail-rich construction and decorating method that is both weighty and yet very warm and comfortable. Influenced by Romanesque architecture, Tuscan-style homes combine materials such as stone, brick, and terracotta on the exterior and wood and textiles on the interior.

The Tuscan style is "responsible" for a large part of the symbolism of the British bohemian style, which was brought to England by 19th-century travelers.

Inside you will find almost nothing plan, metallic, or cold. Floors retain the dark color of solid wood or can be made of stone or terracotta. Walls are rarely white, but are shaded in equally warm and welcoming tones and are often painted with rustic patterns. Furniture is made of wood, while countertops or work surfaces are made of stone or sometimes marble.

The lamps, chandeliers, and ceiling lights are made of wrought iron or copper, while the decorative objects are usually made of clay or, similarly, copper.

Interior doors are always focal points in the design, being installed in high spaces with intensely decorated arches featuring specific motifs. Fireplaces are made of stone and often built in living rooms furnished with a lot of wood. Carpets are heavy and patterned, as are the throws that adorn the tall beds with carved wooden headboards.

Although imposing at first glance, Tuscan-style homes are nonetheless elegant and refined, embodying centuries of Italian culture and remaining architectural landmarks while serving as starting points for modern and strong personality styles.
