The coconut palm is an exotic tree from the tropical zone, belonging to the palm family, reaching heights of approximately 40-50 m and bearing coconuts, which we all love whenever we have the opportunity, whether raw or in pastries, refreshing drinks, or ice cream.
Coconut is an exotic fruit that can be found in any hypermarket in our country, but it cannot be found in Romanian orchards due to the conditions it needs, which are predominantly found in tropical zones.
Although it cannot be grown optimally in our country, it can be grown as an ornamental tree, which will hardly bear fruit, considering that it will not benefit from heat and sunshine throughout the year.
However, growing a coconut palm, starting from a coconut bought from the store, can be an extremely enjoyable process for you and your whole family.
Choose a coconut from the store that has as much water in it as possible, then make sure that none of the 3 plugged holes (also called "eyes") are cracked or have been drilled beforehand.
Then, take a bucket and a stone and fill the entire bucket with warm water. Warm water will accelerate the germination process, and the stone will hold the coconut on the bottom of the bucket to be completely covered in water.
After 24 hours, you can remove the coconut and place it in an airtight bag. Then pour some water into the bag and close it tightly so that air cannot enter. Make sure the coconut is placed with the three eyes facing up, put the airtight bag in a bowl and place it in a warm place.
