The apartment has two rooms and 70 square meters of usable space; it is located in an old apartment building in the heart of Bucharest. The beneficiaries wanted a complete makeover and adaptation of the dwelling to contemporary living standards.
The team from Andreea Marcu architecture studio tells us that "compared to furnishing a new apartment from scratch, delivered unfinished, refurbishing older properties can represent a real challenge – but we will present you with the simplest and fastest way to reconfigure the aesthetics of your home using contemporary finishes.
Alternating textures played a very important role in this refurbishment project. Initially, the apartment had a classic floor zone layout: tiles for the hallway, bathroom and kitchen and parquet for the bedroom and living room.
The architects proposed complete cladding with LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile) and the result is a unified flooring look without separating the already small spaces, and the great advantage of using this material is its direct application over the existing floor, having only a few millimeters thickness. This avoided the entire process of removing the tiles.
Wood, used as a texture for LVT flooring, dominates the entire design. It is harmoniously complemented by exposed concrete and delicate fabrics from furniture and curtains.
Gold profiles applied vertically on the living room and hallway walls optically enlarge the space and at the same time highlight and accentuate the rest of the neutral chromatic finishes.
“We are aware that all apartments present construction defects, various situations that have arisen over time and have degenerated, non-compliant finishes and the list can go on, but fortunately, they all have a solution now and with the help of the evolution of alternative finishing properties we can obtain spectacular results.”
Decorative paint with a concrete effect was applied to the walls without needing to remove the existing tiles, only with prior preparation (treatment and priming of the wall). Finally, a layer of waterproofing agent was applied for the finish's resistance in humid spaces.
