Umaid Bhawan Palace was built as a summer residence for Maharaja Umaid Singh of Jodhpur. Designed by British architect Henry Vaughan Lanchester, the palace was completed after the maharaja's death and inaugurated by his son, Maharaja Hansraj Singh.
