Mirrors can represent the most sophisticated decorative objects in a home, especially if they have a unique design. And when it comes to their appearance, attention to detail is directed towards the shape, size, pattern, or design of the frame that supports the mirror.
The glass itself is generally transparent, but not in the case of Sherrie Levine, who imagined the concept of the classic mirror differently with an innovative idea: black mirrors.
Thus, Levine created a series of 12 black mirrors made of black, polished glass with reflections, framed in dark wood. The idea behind creating these superb decorative objects is based on the spiritual aspect that mirrors reflect.
The creator's objective was to create objects that express pain, mourning, and funerary sculpture. Creations meant to awaken dark feelings and be viewed with sensitive eyes.
The material very well chosen, but especially the black glass succeeded in bringing Sherrie Levine's plan to fruition, thus giving birth to "Mourning Mirrors," the name under which the exhibition is presented.
Even though this concept is supposed to present "doubt and uncertainty" as Sherrie Levine stated and desired, black mirrors placed as decorative objects in a home would only add an original and mysterious touch to the environment, precisely because of the unusual color used.
