When we hear about a house garden, we think of those American residences with generous green spaces, lush plants, and spectacular flowers, but which are hard to maintain.
In urban environments, however, any patch of land is a blessing, even if we cross it in less than six steps. Our challenge in this article was to gather the bare essentials in a garden of less than 10 square meters.
We started with furniture items. For sitting down, a narrow bench placed along a wall or arranged in an L shape is sufficient. It can have storage space under the bench seat. Folding chairs that can be kept indoors during the cold season are also suitable.
As for the table, it can be a folding wooden board fixed to a wall, to be used only when needed. A table on wheels, which can also be used in another space in the house, is also preferable to bulky items that overload an already small space.
When horizontal planting space is not generous, vegetation can be arranged vertically, creating an intimate setting, a green oasis accessible from home. Using fast-growing plants, such as ivy or wisteria, we extend the green frame around the garden. Plants can be hung around frames made of wire or placed in pots or panels.
For an optical effect of amplification, a good idea is to place a mirror in a location where it can capture the rest of the space. This will make it appear twice as large. The object itself becomes the focal point of the garden and reflects light, thus enlivening the space.
Light shades visually enlarge any space, and the garden is no exception. Opt for walls in the lightest possible colors, which reflect light. If you don't want to limit yourself to these, you can have an accent wall in a saturated color.
Avoid unnecessary objects that unnecessarily overload an already small space. For example, cutlery storage can be kept inside the house, and not all souvenirs from vacations need to be displayed at the same time. In your home garden, light and air must circulate freely.
