The American Institute of Architects (AIA) designated the houses of the year 2014, focusing on housing complexes for a family or group of families and special accommodations for the elderly or social cases. Based on these criteria, AIA designated the best new homes in the United States of America, based on design, functionality, and amenities.
Open Gallery The attractive designs with which these houses come are part of the new architectural currents, which go for renewable energy, wanting to achieve as eco-friendly buildings as possible, which cause minimal damage to the surrounding environment.
Former institutional buildings that had been abandoned for decades, nursing homes, placement centers for socially disadvantaged people, former schools and abandoned houses entered the competition.
All these buildings were completely refurbished, from the facade to the interior, even changing the surroundings to create as attractive and eco-friendly buildings as possible. Solar panels have been very popular this year, being an energy source adopted for the roof of many houses.
Great emphasis was also placed on the brightness of these spaces, aiming to eliminate dark rooms, where light hit only a few hours a day.
The purpose of this competition is to improve the quality of life in several cities in the United States of America, but at the same time to change the architectural style of buildings that were left in disrepair or were not functional at all according to efficient standards.
2014 has brought numerous changes in the field of architecture, and this is very easily seen in all the new styles adopted and implemented, which propose bold, daring and unconventional designs.
