We all enjoy admiring unique buildings from around the world and trying to find similarities with natural or industrial elements to deduce the field from which some architects drew inspiration in creating such structures.

One of the most interesting places on the planet is, without a doubt, the ancient city of Yogykarta, Indonesia, where everyone lives in dome-shaped houses.

These houses were built by the Indonesian government following an extremely powerful earthquake that hit this mythical settlement and destroyed all the homes of the residents in the area. Being a rather remote settlement, far from other populated cities or villages, approximately 300 people live in Yogykarta.

The total number of houses built by the Jakarta government is 70, which was also the initial number of houses that were demolished by the earthquake and destroyed by floods.

The dome-shaped houses are an architectural marvel, both in terms of structural strength and appearance. They were designed and conceived together with landscape architects who chose their layout to create a well-planned urban plan.

The monolithic domes are designed to withstand earthquakes of over 8 on the Richter scale and can also withstand winds that reach speeds of approximately 305 km/h in the region.

With such constructions, the residents of the ancient Indonesian town of Yogykarta have no reason to worry in the event of natural disasters, as they are perfectly safe.
