A group of students organized a public crowdfunding initiative to help renovate an Altbau, an apartment building constructed at the beginning of this century in Berlin, for the Solar Decathlon Europe 2014 competition. This Rooftop House is a modular house that will replace the current roof and provide solar energy to the building below.
GaleriaProprietarii Altbau will invest in renovating their roof and possibly replacing old electrical appliances, repairing windows and the facade of the building, and changing the heating system. This modular formation can be transported entirely and simply placed on top of the house's base in one piece.
Underneath several adjustable solar panels that can be turned towards the sun, are located the kitchen, a dining area, the living room, and the bathroom. By using bamboo for the kitchen surface as well as the countertop, the kitchen appears absorbed into the center of the house.
The center of the house contains all the technical appliances and also houses the bathroom and kitchen, serving as a defined anchoring space. Its main feature is adaptability, allowing owners to modify and decorate the surrounding space exactly as they wish.
It was designed as a closed integral part that is very useful not only in terms of maintenance and reducing energy loss in the circuit system but also in terms of transportation and construction.
