It is no secret that healthy vegetables can only be grown on healthy soil. We can obtain ideal soil conditions if we enrich the soil from layers with compost made by us, rich in nutrients.
Preparing compost is not a complicated process, although many opinions indicate otherwise. It is good to know that the structure of compost is not formed only from garbage, which decomposing will smell bad. Here's what it's good to know to create quality compost for our garden.
What should compost contain? From leaves, mowed grass, hay, weeds, vegetable waste, branches, shoots, lawn clippings. It is also good and old soil from pots and planters, cut flowers, leftover vegetables and fruits, coffee grounds, bran or bone meal.
For organic matter to decompose, air is needed first and foremost. To ensure proper aeration, you need to lightly fluff the different materials: mix sticky components with larger ones.
Soil organisms decompose organic matter and transform it into humus. A basic condition is moisture and adequate temperature. Microorganisms need heat. If they have finely chopped material in which they can live plus an addition of nitrogen, then through their metabolism they will evenly heat the compost.
It is important to choose the right place for the compost bin. A suitable place is under a shady corner of the garden, but not too shady and not exposed to strong sunlight.
